Local Florist Elevates their Arrangements—and their Workspace—to an Art Form
Rennie and Brian Friedlander had been running Simply Beautiful Flowers & Gifts out of a quaint shop in Pikesville for more than 20 years when, in 2014, they partnered with Debra Carey and Courtney James, and began planning a move to a larger space. Over the years, they had established a solid reputation as a leading purveyor of beautiful high-end floral arrangements, serving many of the most discerning clients in Baltimore, but they needed room to grow.
“We wanted to create a landmark, destination floral design studio and retail gift shop that would be unique to not only Baltimore but the entire East Coast,” Courtney says.
So, they hired Peter Ratcliffe of Ratcliffe Architects and proceeded to do just that.
The partners settled on a location in the Bare Hills area just off Falls Road, and over the course of the ensuing two years worked with Ratcliffe and Delbert Adams Construction Group to create their dream shop, which they built from the ground up.
Simply Beautiful moved into their exquisite new space in the spring of 2016. The rustic, European-inspired building features luxurious meeting spaces where the team collaborates with clients and event planners, a well-appointed gift shop, a state-of-the-art walk-in storage cooler and a cavernous workroom where natural light washes over large custom-built wood tables.
“Everyone on their team was fully committed to our project and became like family throughout the construction process,” Courtney says. “Our space is an absolute dream come true.”
